Safeguarding Your Financial Accounts

We at Cole Taylor Bank take your privacy and the security of your financial accounts very seriously. We'd like you to know there are measures you can take to decrease the likelihood of becoming a victim of fraud or identity theft:

Review all statements relating to financial and cardholder accounts and report any unusual activity to your financial institution.
Never respond to unsolicited requests for personal financial information such as your Social Security Number or financial account numbers, regardless of whether such requests are made via telephone, mail, or e-mail. Be wary of emails containing links to authentic-looking Web sites that ask for sensitive or identifying financial information. Report "Phishing" Attempts Here

Keep financial information only in a secure location. Don’t leave statements or other documents displaying sensitive information in insecure locations.
Don’t carry passwords to financial accounts on your person or store with other identifying information.
Shred or dispose of sensitive or identifying information carefully.
Periodically review your credit history. For information on how to receive free reports from credit bureaus, call 1-877-322-8228 or apply online.
Visit the Federal Trade Commission Web site on identity theft. There, you will find a wealth of information on preventing, recognizing and recovering from this kind of consumer fraud.

If you suspect that the security of one of your accounts has been breached or if you believe you are already the victim of identity theft, you should:

Immediately contact your financial institution.
Close affected accounts.
Open new accounts with new passwords.
File a police report.
Place Fraud Alerts in your credit reports. You may do this by contacting any one of the three major reporting bureaus (TransUnion, Experian, Equifax). When the credit bureau you have contacted confirms your fraud alert, it will notify the other two credit bureaus to place fraud alerts in your file. This informs creditors that you may have been a victim of fraud and requires them to contact you before opening any new accounts or making any changes to your existing accounts.
